CAADE | California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators

In order to qualify to apply for the CATC exam, you must have completed a CAADE accredited program (or equivalent). Proof of completion of all classes must be included with your initial application. A one-time processing fee of $55.00 for members ($130 for non members) is to be sent with your CBT application and necessary documents to CAADE. A $70.00 fee is paid directly to the testing company when you call to schedule your appointment to take the exam.

How It Works

Once you have completed all classes and have received your certificate of completion from your college, you may apply to take the CATC exam. When you are ready to take the CATC exam, mail the CBT application, all required items and payment of $55 to CAADE. (Any missing information will delay your process significantly so be sure to attach all requested documentation and payments). Once you have applied, you will receive a phone call from Becca Porter or another CAADE representative to give you further instructions for scheduling your exam appointment. Please provide the best phone number to reach you. The test monitors will assign you to a testing site and collect $70.00. They will accept a credit card over the phone or you can work out other payment arrangements with them. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CONTACT THE CAADE OFFICE AGAIN. You will contact the test monitors for rescheduling, canceling or changing your appointment, or other emergencies related to your exam appointment.

1. If you use Paypal to pay your CAADE exam fee please send a copy of the Paypal receipt attached to your application. Checks and money orders are also accepted.

2. You will receive your exam results immediately upon completion of the exam. The testing site will give you a printout which details your test results and gives you further instructions. Please save the results printout to send in when you complete your hours and apply for your CATC credential.*

3. If you do not pass the exam, you may re-test after 60 days. You will contact the test monitor to schedule your retake. You will need to pay $70.00 to the test monitor each time you re-test.

* Please remember that you must complete your internship hours and apply for your CATC credential within three (3) years after you pass the exam. Passing the CATC exam DOES NOT mean you are certified. You MUST pass the exam and apply for your initial CATC credential after completion of 2240 supervised clinical hours at a State Licensed AOD facility.

THIS IS A CONVENIENT WAY TO PAY ON-LINE.  PAYING ON-LINE DOES NOT REGISTER OR RENEW YOU IN ANY WAY.  YOU MUST PRINT A COPY OF YOUR RECEIPT SHOWING THE AMOUNT PAID AND MAIL THE RECEIPT AND APPLICATIONS IN TO THE CAADE CENTRAL OFFICE.  IF YOU DO NOT, THE CAADE CENTRAL OFFICE DOES NOT KNOW THAT YOU PAID THROUGH PAY PAL - SO PLEASE, BE SURE TO MAIL AN APPLICATION AND A COPY OF YOUR PAYPAL RECEIPT!

Please be advised that as of January 1, 2010, 9 (nine) of your 40 CEU's to renew your CATC must be in law and ethics training.
