California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators WE EDUCATE AND CERTIFY ADDICTIONS TREATMENT COUNSELORS (C.A.T.C.) Register with CAADE - work toward becoming a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor (C.A.T.C.) Our C.A.T.C.s (Certified Addictions Treatment Counselors) have completed 36 Semester Units at a CAADE accredited college, passed a comprehensive exam, and are required to continue their education in the field. Higher standards for better counselors. Our C.A.T.C.'s are among the best educated counselors you can hire! Quality education = Quality Counselors! Regulations for AOD Counselor Certification took effect April 1, 2005. All AOD counselors working in the field are required to be certified within 5 years from the date they register. Registration with one of the certifying organizations must be filed within six months after the effective date of the Department of Alcohol & Drug Programs Counselor Certification Regulations (4-1-2005), or your employment with an AOD recovery or treatment facility or program, whichever comes later.
