Register with CAADE - work toward becoming a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor (C.A.T.C.) Our C.A.T.C.s (Certified Addictions Treatment Counselors) have completed 36 Semester Units at a CAADE accredited college, passed a comprehensive exam, and are required to continue their education in the field. Regulations for AOD Counselor Certification took effect April 1, 2005. All AOD counselors working in the field are required to be certified within 5 years. Registration with one of the certifying organizations must be filed within six months after the effective date of the Department of Alcohol & Drug Programs Counselor Certification Regulations (4-1-2005), or your employment with an AOD recovery or treatment facility or program, whichever comes later.
